Bushman Sands International Airport

Also known as Bushman Sands Golf Course, but get this - a pilot on a private South African flight to Port Alfred ran into turbulent weather. After circling around he realise he wasn't going to make it to Port Alfred and would have to make an emergency landing.

What better place to land than on the esteemed Bushman Sands Golf Course's immaculate fairways. Besides 10 stitches in the nose and a broken front wheel not to much damage to his 1948 vintage plane or him.

Gary Player, the course designer, would not doubt be proud of the the robustness of the fairways!

Dear yzerfontein

Thank you very much.

1. I've checked with the Yahoo Dictionary and confirmed that "antipole" is a correct word for such use, so does "antipode".

2. I took Cathay Pacific to Johannesburg in August 1995. As it was too long ago, I couldn't remember the exact duration, so I deliberately use "not more than 15 hours". Please accept my apology. I have uploaded a picture of mine at the Cape of Good Hope in the posting "Beers of the Pyramids (3)" to add more fun.

Thank you again.

thanks for your comment and tip. hope to find more interesting travel ideas from your blog. i am flying Malaysian Airlines so it will be a direct flight.

Thanks for the link and such.
I was actually hoping to drive to Cape Town and go through Knysna. Never been to Knysna and I've dreamt about it for ages.

Thank you anyway.

Is there a chance that SAA will ever be privatized? The company seems to be getting political with time. I now hear that each director at SAA sits on twenty other boardrooms. This is for sure creating boardroom innefficiencies because most members happen to be political appointees.

theoretically the SA government is meant to be pro-poor, not subsidising the flights of the rich...

Amazing.

Did not know Bloems got an airport.

No, that's a poor attempt of a joke.

Thanx for the advice.

If all goes well, Bloem and I shall be seeing quite alot of each other.
